WHERE!?!

Ruco and I received our invitation for Peace Corps finally! We are invited to "The Gambia!!!" We are supposed to be in DC for staging
/orient-
ation on January 29th! We werent exactly sure where the Gambia was-its the smallest country on the entire continent of Africa! It is located on the coast, and has a tropical climate which I am happy about! They also call it, "the smiling coast of Africa." We will either learn Mandinka or Wollof, as those are the languages spoken. The official language, however, is English. We have both been asked to work in the Health and Community Development sector. Our actual work could differ greatly since we could be working in the field, or perhaps working for a local NGO. We are both feeling very excited right now, since we have waited for this news for over a year! We are also praying without ceasing for peace and wisdom in our decision. I love the verse (James 1:5,)that says if we ask for God's wisdom, He promises to give it!
Our plans right now are to stay in France and continue to work with Campus Crusade for a couple more months. We love being here, and are so blessed for the opportunity! My heart is so changed from this experience, and God is growing Ruco and I more than ever before. He is definitely softening our hearts and preparing us for the experiences ahead in Africa while we are here! I have so many blogs I could write from conversations I have had here with the team serving in the NAMESTAN region. It is refreshing and amazing to really SEE/HEAR what God is doing in the hearts of people all over the world! Im glad to be here, and I am thankful.
Im also learning in being here in France how hard it is going to be for me to miss all those things-weddings, baby showers, graduations, etc. happening in the states. Rucos mom says I will always miss them, and it is a daily sacrifice. Two years of missed special occasions and holidays will lie heavy on my heart. At least I am learning this ahead of time, and I feel like Im going into our two years in Africa with the tiniest bit more preparation. I guess thats another thing we are called to do-be living sacrifices.
Anyway, thank you all so much for praying for Ruco and I. We love you so much for it. I will write more of our Africa dreams and plans as my excitement/worries/joys/anxities come!!

And all the rest of your real friendships will pick up right where they left off! Nobody is going to forget you! How could they?? I love you!

At last! It must be a great feeling to finally know something concrete! I'm excited for you guys and will be praying that you'll be touching peoples' lives like you wouldn't believe. You guys are a couple of blessed individuals - even when you don't know which direction your lives will take, it always looks like the right way and that you're having an awesome time at the same time!

Lots of love!
