Uganda to Haiti

Ruco and I have been decision-making machines lately! :)

We were moving right along in making choices about where we would like to be for the fall for grad school. We were also making some vacation plans for our interim period between Uganda and grad school. An around the world trip was in the mix, and I was already day dreaming of being in South Africa, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti…just lying on the beach with my hubby and enjoying 2 solid months of time away! Then, out of the blue, we got an email from SP asking if Ruco would consider being the Food Manager in Haiti.

Ruco and I hadn’t thought a lot about GOING to Haiti. We were broken over the situation there, and were inspired by what SP has already done in Haiti, but we didn’t feel a calling to GO to Haiti! We knew SP was pulling many people out of the field in other regions to go and meet immediate needs in Haiti, but we didn’t think too much about going. We were perfectly content to be intercessors and pray on behalf of the Haitians from right where we were! ;)

I guess God had other plans for us all along. Those plans didn’t include surfing and lying in the sun on a beach somewhere. :) But even better, those plans are to be His hands and feet. SP is doing so much in Haiti, launching the biggest relief efforts in 40 years! They are feeding hundreds of thousands, re-building homes, making sure that Haitians have clean water to drink, and focusing on medical care.

I have heard from numerous people that the resilience of the people in Haiti is remarkable. Despite such despair and such heartache, they are looking forward. Many have given their lives to Christ since the quake, and are hopeful about the future to come. I can’t imagine. I can’t imagine losing everything I have. I can’t imagine my home in ruins, and family members gone because of such a disaster. Yet, this is the reality they face every day.

But I have heard from others who have gone ahead that God is doing an amazing work in the lives of Haitians. That He is bringing people to Himself. I can’t wait to go and witness His glory written all over their faces. I can’t wait to see how God is moving and working in Haiti. We will be there beginning May 1st, and will stay at least 3 months, as we are still hoping for grad school in the fall. But I am slowly learning not to make too many plans of my own!!!

Thanks for your prayers, we appreciate all the encouragement so much!

You and Ruco were definitely meant to do extraordinary things! That's for sure! Seriously though Kris, did you ever think in high school that you'd be traveling the world spreading God's word and helping others? It really is amazing to me... Anywho, always praying for you and Rucs and I miss you both! Can't wait to see you soon!
